I am thrilled to announce that Double Shot of Love has received Finalist honors for Romance covers in the ETWG Blue Ribbon Book Cover Awards! I am the cover designer (as well as the author), so I am doubly excited the book was chosen for this honor!
Inspiring young minds to read and write is a feeling like no other.
Yesterday, I was honored to present to five grades at J. L Boren Elementary in Mansfield, Texas. A shout-out goes to their amazing librarian, Kristy Moore, who did a fabulous job setting up the day-long event and was a gracious hostess.
Two moments during the day will remain in my mind forever.
The first was when a second-grader came to the library during lunch, about an hour after I had presented to her class. She brought with her the first book she had ever written, which she wrote in class after hearing me speak. She said she was inspired to write it after hearing me talk about writing and my books. The sweetheart had stapled all the pages together and read her “first book” to Kristy and me. Talk about warming the heart!
The next “forever” moment came when a young third-grader brought her mom in after school to purchase one of my books. She said that I had inspired her to start reading, and she couldn’t wait to start reading my novel!
Words can’t express how much the heart-felt words of these two darling children meant to me. I am truly honored to play a small part in inspiring these kids to read and write. Priceless!
October and November have been jam-packed with seminars, book events, and writer workshops. I met so many wonderful people and appreciate them coming to hear me speak. I gave a picture book writers’ workshop at the Skillman Library, a full-day self-publishing workshop for SCBWI North Texas, and a talk on Moon Tears to the wonderful ladies of the Carrollton, Texas Daughters of the American Revolution chapter. And that was just one week! Shortly following these talks, I participated in The Magical World of Art and Story: North Texas Children and Teen Literary Showcase and Gallery Show in Plano. Needless to say, after weeks of non-stop preparation and events, I needed a break. A dear group of ladies invited me to a “Writer’s Retreat” in East Texas, and our hostess spoiled us with her amazing meals. My favorite, I must say, was her French Toast. She paired it with organic French-Canadian maple syrup, pure melted butter, and dusted her masterpiece with just the right amount of powdered sugar. Heaven!

They plan the perfect snow party and invite all their friends, but what will happen when everything goes topsy-turvy? Join us this holiday season to find out what happens!
Kids will fall in love with this new holiday classic!
Robert McCloskey’s classic, Make Way For Ducklings, continues to be one of my all-time favorite children’s books, probably because my mom read it to my sister and me on a regular basis when we were young. Each time I come across a duck family attempting to cross the road (as happens occasionally near our neighborhood), I pull over and watch as they waddle toward a nearby creek or pond. Inevitably, this book springs to mind, and when I return home, I pull out the copy my mom used to read and hope that the family I saw has as good a life in their pond as Mr. and Mrs. Mallard. McCloskey’s drawings are timeless, and the expressions he gives the family are priceless. Make Way For Ducklings is a gem for all generations! Happy hammock reading!
This gem of a book was found at Beyond the Door, a charming store in Richardson, Texas. I have been a fan of the Little Golden Book series since childhood, my favorite being the Poky Little Puppy. The author of this book, Diane Muldrow, happens to be a longtime editorial director at Golden Books, and has combined many of the lessons learned from these jewels into a new classic. You finish this book with a smile on your face and the realization that sometimes the best advice is as simple as “Be Unique” and “Stay Curious.” Happy hammock reading!
Today I am jumping into something I have wanted to do for a while. Being the reader that I am, I love finding new, interesting books that have a unique twist to them, and this one fits the bill. So, today is the first in a series of posts I am calling my “Hammock Read-of-the-Week.” Glamping with Mary Janeis a fabulous book that my chic cousin sent my way. Knowing how much I love both glamour and camping, she hit the nail on the head with this book. I picked it up, stretched out in the hammock, and couldn’t put it down. I can hardly wait to “glam-out” our RV! Take a peek at this jewel, and send a shout-out with cool books that have changed your life. Happy hammock reading! #hammockreadoftheweek #coolcamping
